Heyer's Pre-Purchase Inspection

When you're serious about purchasing a used Porsche, a pre-purchase inspection can save you from spending thousands playing catch-up on someone else's deferred maintenance, or can help you make the decision to buy. You can trust Tony Heyer to tell it like it is, and give a comprehensive opinion of what may, or may not be your next Porsche.

How long does it take? It depends upon how in-depth you want to take the inspection. If you're looking at a late model car, and are primarily concerned with cosmetics, and bodywork, just bring the car by the shop. Tony can give it a cosmetic once-over for no charge. Still interested in the car? The clock starts at this point, with most inspections lasting between one and two hours.

The most important part of the process is having the potential buyer present for the evaluation. We'll test drive it, then put it on the lift for a suspension, chassis, and wheel evaluation. Knowing what to look for under the hood, and under the car can paint a pretty accurate picture how the car has been treated. Tony can coach the buyer on potential price negotiation points based on maintenance items or necessary repairs, and map out schedules for what's really necessary, and when.

"I had a guy bring in a really nice 993 Turbo S to check out recently. This car was mechanically and cosmetically perfect, except for one tiny door ding. The potential buyer wanted a perfect car with no blemishes, and based on the fact

the car would have been fixed and not completely original, he passed." On the other end of the spectrum, a very low mileage 1989 944 Turbo (44k miles) came in, and it was apparently neglected. Things were actually duct taped and safety wired to the car, and it needed over $5,000 in maintenance. This was figured into a seemingly lowball offer, which was quickly accepted. I would have bought the car for this price, but the buyer got cold feet, lowered his offer, and it didn't come together." Tony said.

Investing a small amount on a pre-purchase inspection can save you from jaw dropping surprises the first time you visit the shop.
